FRENCH REVOLUTIONARY WARS 1796 – 1800

CUBAN CHASSEURS & Dogs

This blister pack contains two unpainted figures and four unpainted dogs. Figures are supplied unpainted and unassembled & bases are not included.
These units were used primarily to hunt run away slaves but the Spanish used them against Native Indians. The British hired some to fight against the Maroon Revolt in Jamaica. The French also tried using these dogs in Battle in St. Domingue.
The French Revolutionary Wars at the turn of the 18th Century had spread beyond Europe to reach the Carribean. The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) was a period of brutal conflict in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, leading to the elimination of slavery and the establishment of Haiti as the first republic ruled by people of African ancestry. Although hundreds of rebellions occurred in the New World during the centuries of slavery, only the revolt on Saint-Domingue, which began in 1791, was successful in achieving permanent independence under a new nation. The Haitian Revolution is regarded as a defining moment in the history of Africans in the New World.
The uprising in Haiti drew in the European super powers with Britain & Spain fighting against the French in the Carribean. After many brutal battles, the rebels were successful in expelling the French and declared the former colony’s independence, renaming it “Haiti” after the indigenous Arawak name. This major loss was a decisive blow to France and its colonial empire.

The French Revolutionary Wars were a series of major conflicts, from 1792 until 1802, fought between the French Revolutionary government and several European states. Marked by French revolutionary fervour and military innovations, the campaigns saw the French Revolutionary Armies defeat a number of opposing coalitions and expand French control to the Low Countries, Italy, and the Rhineland. The wars involved enormous numbers of soldiers, mainly due to the application of modern mass conscription.

The French Revolutionary Wars are usually divided between those of the First Coalition (1792–1797) and the Second Coalition (1798–1801), although France was at war with Great Britain continuously from 1793 to 1802. Hostilities ceased with the Treaty of Amiens 1802, but conflict soon started up again with the Napoleonic Wars.

Trent Miniatures is a well established Wargames Figure Company producing high quality 28mm miniatures. They produce a number of ranges including  soldiers of the French Revolutionary Wars, Historical Characters and a small but superb Science Fiction range.
